How do I find out if a doctor has been sued for medical malpractice in Ohio?

A: When we submit ourselves to a physician’s care, we trust them to safeguard our well-being and our health for the duration, so when that trust is broken and we’re injured by the very people we relied on to make us well, the psychological ramifications can be severe.

In addition, the legal blowback of medical malpractice in Cleveland can also be quite grave, and each state board maintains a profile and status of the legal standing of each of its licensed practitioners. However, bearing that in mind, there is no way to definitively research malpractice cases against doctors

Although you can’t find out very much about malpractice claims against doctors, you can conduct an Ohio doctor license search by going to the website of the State Medical Board of Ohio. By selecting the “credential and research” section at the top of the website, you can search through information on practitioners through the Ohio licensure database.

Once there, a list of links will appear that enables you to find news and other information in the medical field pertaining to your area. By searching through the roster of registered medical professions by:

  • business name;
  • first and last name;
  • license number; and/or
  • location, you can find information that can help you determine a suitable physician for you.
You will be given information on the medical professional’s:
  • practice location;
  • place of education;
  • registration number;
  • specialties; and
  • data on whether or not any formal action has been taken against that practitioner.
Although it won’t show you if there are any pending claims or lawsuits, if significant malfeasance has been discovered related to the physician’s conduct, an Ohio doctor license search will show that action has been taken.
